Deadline: 17 November 2023
Nadirah Simmons, Editor in Chief of The Gumbo, is looking for pitches:
We spent the last year working hard on our debut book, and now that it’s finished we’re so excited to bring back themes in 2024! January’s theme is “you haven’t heard?” and we want pitches all about women in hip-hop from your town, country, school, or neighborhood.
JANUARY 2024 THEME: YOU HAVEN'T HEARD?
When I was working on 'first things first,' I learned about so many different women in hip-hop from all over the world for the first time. In the spirit of those discoveries, January's theme is dedicated to highlighting the women in hip-hop from your town, country, school, or neighborhood that you want people to know about. We want pitches about radio hosts, DJs, historians, rappers, designers, producers—basically any woman in hip-hop from your region that you would like to amplify. We'd love pitches from black women and non-binary writers at all levels. Send your pitch to pitch@thegumbo.net no later than Nov. 17 at 11:59 pm ET. Rate is $275 for 700 words.
