Deadline: 18 December 2023
Anto Cerrato, Editor at Sidequest, is looking for pitches:
We got a lot of great submissions during the last pitch call and have filled out a good chunk of year 3 of SIDEQUEST’s run. My goal with this pitch call is to fill the few remaining gaps we’ve got left in the year 3 schedule and get started on year 4 content.
Before pitching, please familiarize yourself with the rules for submission over on patreon, and check out the article index to make sure what you are pitching hasn't already been published.
The pitch deadline is Monday, December 18th 2023. After this time I will review all pitches and decide which ones will progress to the outline stage.
HOW TO PITCH
Please email your pitches to info@icarus-games.co.uk with the following subject format; “SIDEQUEST Pitch, [Pitch Name], [System], [Your Name]”, for example “SIDEQUEST Pitch, 5e, Alchemist Class, Anto Cerrato”.
Once you’ve submitted your pitch it will be reviewed following the process outlined here.
DO NOT PITCH ME
- Full Classes (with the exception of any asked for below)
- Repeated material: Please do not submit work you have published elsewhere on the internet, and look over the article index to make sure you're not pitching thematically similar things to previous articles.
- Adventures: We are not looking for adventure content at this time.
PLEASE PITCH ME
- Monsters: We’re looking for up to 12 unique monsters for future issues. Monster articles should include lore and mechanics for D&D 5e or Pathfinder 2e (or both), with a total word count of no more than 2,000 words. These feature monsters will have art associated with them, so we are looking for monsters that have a strong visual identity and are mechanically interesting - not just two claw attacks and a bite!
- Magic Items: We’re looking for multiple articles dedicated to magic items. Please pitch magic items in minimum groupings of 6 items. They don’t need to be related items or share a theme.
- Subclasses (5e) & Archetypes (PF2). We’re looking for unique and flavorful options that aren’t already covered by the options presented in the article index. Ideally these pitches would include material for both systems, but that isn’t essential.
- Open Pitch: Feel free to pitch anything not listed in the do not pitch section.
THE SETTING OF ISTAR
In year 3 of SIDEQUEST we are putting a greater emphasis on developing our campaign setting of Istar, which has had some content produced for it over the course of the last 2 years of the 'zine. The intention is that every article will include at least some context about this world and setting.
It is not necessary for your articles to contain specific references to the Istar setting, but if you wish to set you articles more firmly in this world, you can find a setting guide by clicking the link below.
During the course of writing your articles, you can always ask more questions about the setting to learn more.

- Review the submission guidelines here.
- Check out our collection of pitch excerpts on this page and find more sample pitches at The Open Notebook Database and at SuccessfulPitches.com.
- Do not forget to end your pitch with (1) a short introduction about yourself; (2) a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits; and (3) links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.
