Compensation: $55 USD per hour

Job Description: GRIT seeks a focused, determined, and highly detail-oriented part-time journalist and copyeditor to join our team remotely. As a writer for our GRIT daily, weekly, and monthly newsletters, you will research and source breaking news stories related to finance and investing and contribute to our head journalist’s stories to inform, captivate, and grow our audience. You will also be responsible for the accuracy of the content and perfect grammar, spelling, and tone.

Our ideal candidate is a proactive go-getter, a clear communicator, and dedicated to producing unbiased, top-notch stories with our team. As a journalist/copyeditor for GRIT, you will play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of our content. Your primary responsibility will be contributing to, reviewing, editing, and proofreading newsletter content while using Beehiiv software and features to streamline the delivery process. This position will report directly to our content team (who are all pretty awesome.)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate closely with our editorial and writing team to contribute to, proofread, and edit newsletters for clarity, accuracy, and coherence for paid and non-paying subscriber content
• Research finance, business, and investing stories each day, delivering these stories to our content team
• MUST excel using Beehiiv software to effectively proofread and edit content, features, design elements, etc., ensuring all newsletters adhere to our editorial guidelines
• Pay deep attention to detail to identify and correct grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. If there’s a punctuation error, we hear about it! Must have a meticulous eye
• Communicate effectively with team members to clarify content and ensure the overall quality of the newsletter. We are a fast-paced team
• Meet deadlines consistently and work efficiently to ensure timely delivery of error-free content
• Contribute suggestions for improving content readability and engagement while maintaining the brand's voice

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven experience as a journalist and copyeditor with a strong background in newsletters, specifically
• Some experience or passion for investing, business, finance, and/or a related industry
• Must understand email segmentation, list management, paid vs unpaid subscriber segmentation
• Proficiency in using Beehiiv software and capabilities for efficient proofreading
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to delivering error-free content
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and style guides
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A passion for finance, investing, and staying informed about market trends
• Familiarity with financial terminology is a plus
• Strong understanding of newsletter functions, purpose, and integrations
• Previous experience with newsletter copywriting, proofreading, and execution is required for this role
• Must spot mistakes, issues, inconsistencies, broken links, etc.
• Must effectively communicate with the GRIT team and respond to outreach within a reasonable time frame
• Must be prepared to share writing samples if an interview is requested
• One of our newsletters is daily, and this person must work efficiently from 7:30-8:30 AM ET Monday to Friday to publish the newsletter by 8:30 AM ET Monday to Friday
