Gina Vitale, Editor of Freelance News/Features at Chemical & Engineering News, is looking for pitches:
I'm excited to announce that I'm now a C&EN editor! I'll mainly be commissioning/editing freelance news and features. More details:
I've joined Manny Fox Morone in the Content Partnerships Group, which commissions news stories about papers in ACS journals, and feature stories about lots of things with a chemistry connection. Here are some of the excellent pieces I've helped edit so far:
- Almond Waste is a Growing Challenge: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acscentsci.3c01458
- Crude oil can prompt ocean larvae to metamorphose: https://cen.acs.org/environment/Crude-oil-prompt-ocean-larvae/101/web/2023/12
- Light-activated naloxone may protect from opioid overdose: https://cen.acs.org/pharmaceuticals/drug-delivery/Light-activated-naloxone-protect-opioid/101/web/2023/11
We're always looking for new freelancers. Our rates for 2024 start at $650 for news stories (+$75 if pitched), $1.70/word for Q&A's, and $2/word for multi-source features. If you're a science writer and you're interested in/curious about writing for C&EN, please reach out!
