Pitches wanted (cinema) | ~19 cents per word
Added 2024-01-09 21:24:13 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: LITTLE WHITE LIES
Hannah strong, Digital Editor of Little White Lies, is looking for pitches:
As we are now in 2024, I will be commissioning again for Little White Lies soon. However this is with caveats.
First of all read the guidelines: https://lwlies.com/submissions-guidelines/. Sounds obvious I know you would not believe how many pitches I get from people who didn't bother.
Second, we pay 15p per word and you will be offered a round number (1000 words, etc.). You retain all rights to your work. Yes I know it's quite low. I cannot do anything about it. I have tried and will keep trying.
Third, I'm commissioning less this year as I have less budget. I am sad about this but again, I cannot do anything about it. This means I want really great, unique ideas, as outlined on the guidelines, and if you are unsuccessful, please try to not take it too personally.
Fourth, the most common pitches I get are for reviews. There are not enough reviews for the number of pitches I get. You will stand more of a chance with something that isn't a review.
Fifth. please read the guidelines. I spent so long writing the Little White Lies submissions guidelines: https://lwlies.com/submissions-guidelines/
Sixth. My email is on the website. Please feel free to email me about any questions or queries or comments.
Seventh. if you are just starting out, or just feeling a little rusty, here is another document I wrote that might be useful (UK specific but a lot is internationally relevant): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q-SVkyCnZQUSmHA5H9bowsbforLFEWN12LOf7kiCQE4/edit#
Eighth. Little White Lies is currently two and a half people doing everything. We are very stretched and very nervous. Please be patient with us. that said you are always okay to nudge me if I overlook something.
Ninth. I am looking for fun, interesting, intelligent writing on new and old cinema. I love wit, I love personality, I love a new take. I don't love clickbait, 'why your favourite film is problematic', lists (unless they're really, really good) or purely reactionary op-eds.
Tenth. In exchange for your good ideas I promise you a thoughtful and relatively pain-free editorial process. Now, if you have read all of this, thank you, and feel free to pitch me according to the guidelines.
If you want to know the sort of thing we love to do, here's a list of 2023 Little White Lies articles that I loved commissioning/editing: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ilAYIfQqUiL-DnYTuOtuUM77bT43Dmm2WgPL20BGNP4/edit
