General Assignment Reporters wanted (Columbus/Phenix City) | $200 to $500 per article

Janell Williams, Editor in Chief of The Courier Eco-Latino, is looking for writers:

The Courier Eco-Latino is seeking experienced reporters to join its team on a part-time, or full-time basis. We are also open to freelance contributors.

The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering prompt news coverage while producing comprehensive and engaging articles that positively impact the readership.

Reporters will cover everything from breaking news stories, local politics, events, and features.

Freelance contributers will make between $200-$500 per article.

Part-time / Full-time wages starting at $17 / hour DOE

ABOUT THE EMPLOYER

The Courier Eco-Latino is a news organization, supported by the Pivot Fund, and committed to shaping the local narrative about the African American community in Columbus and neighboring Phenix City.

We are looking for a candidate who shares our vision of producing and distributing compelling, informative, and educational content across multiple platforms that will bring the community’s attention to what it truly means to be Black in Columbus.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Report on general assignment stories daily
• Responsible for the accurate reporting of news stories
• Interview, report, write, and present stories as assigned.
• Ability to deliver quality content and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong writing and reporting skills and excellent news judgment
• Familiarity with the AP style
• Commitment to accurate, ethical journalism
• Demonstrated ability to use social media platforms to reach audiences
• Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy and taking and giving constructive criticism.
• A versatile reporter with at least two years of experience
• A self-starter when it comes to stories, but also collaborative.
• A willingness to adapt and be audience-focused
• Based in Columbus/ Phenix City
