Raksha Vasudevan, Contributing Editor at High Country News, is looking for pitches:

CALL FOR PITCHES: For High Country News, I’m looking for under-reported stories about recent immigrants from Latin America to the West.

I’m interested in stories that tell a larger narrative about this community’s journeys, lives and/or futures in Western America and how they’re shaping the region in unexpected ways.

I’m looking for stories between 800 – 1,500 words. In your pitch, pls spell out how your story will be different from already existing coverage. Local news, especially in CO and CA, have been covering this issue for a while. We want to build on that, not repeat it.

Please also clarify your access to sources, if you speak Spanish, and your reporting timeline. Deadline for pitches is 03/15. We pay $1/word. Send pitches to Raksha.vasudevan@hcn.org. If you haven’t heard back from me by 03/22, then you can assume it’s not a good fit this time.
