If you work in beer in any capacity and also do some writing, please consider pitching or submitting work to Final Gravity. Beyond beer articles, we are soliciting creative writing (poetry, flash fiction, etc.) on any subject from brewery employees.
Here is our current schedule:
Issue 06:
Pitch deadline: 5/31/2024
Contents finalized: 6/12/2024
Filing deadline: 8/2/2024
Publish: 10/15/2024
We agree upon a flat rate for the entire contribution when we commission it rather than paying per word in the finished copy. Our payment roughly works out to about $.15-$.20 per word.
For short pieces (500-700 words), we generally pay $100.
For short features (800-1,400 words) we generally pay $150-$200.
For longer features (>1,400 words) we generally pay $200-$300.
Art features currently pay $75.
If a writer is able to take their own photos for an article, we pay an extra $25.

Learn more about the publication: Final Gravity is a quarterly print zine that aims to tell intimate, human-centric stories about beer and the culture surrounding it. The zine stays away from reporting and more newsy, industry-level coverage and features writing that is more focused on people, places, ingredients, sensory experiences, cultural intersections, and the holistic ways we interact with and around beer.
