Deadline: 1 May 2024
Tina Lee, Editor in Chief of Unbias the News, is looking for pitches:
Right at Unbias the News, we are launching a new global call for pitches for a series called The Democracy Playbook. So what's it all about and how can you apply: https://unbiasthenews.org/why-we-are-launching-the-democracy-playbook/
We've been following along over the last years as journalists have exposed what you might call "the authoritarian playbook". Tactics that anti-democratic movements use to demonize minorities undermine the free press, discredit free elections, and corrupt the independent judiciary
But what's the opposite side? How do movements fight back against the capture of democratic institutions? What are the cultural, political, social resources of those who resist? What are the tactics and strategies of the 'Democratic Playbook'?
For this series, we are looking for stories from past + present, from all over the world, of movements that had success in bringing people together to fight for: workers rights, the environment, democratic institutions, women's rights, fair elections, the free press and more.
Most importantly, we want to draw lessons that can educate and inspire from these stories. Authoritarians hate protests, direct action, and resistance: why should the media carry water for them? Let's tell these stories and learn from them instead.
If you have a story that fits the bill, submit a pitch here by May 1st. We pay €500/person per article (joint pitches are allowed), strive to pay on time, and cover bank transfer fees. People who speak English as a second or third language are invited to apply.
