Pitches wanted (environment, justice, education, etc.) | ~£200 to £400 per article
Added 2024-04-24 22:45:15 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: THE LEAD
Please consider pitching to us. Scope and guidance follow below. We pay decent rates and we promise to never delete our website.
Guidance: We are a UK-focused, newsletter-based magazine, publishing a national edition and four newly launched local editions (Blackpool, Bolton, Teesside and Stoke-on-Trent), with six more to follow shortly - all the north of England, for now.
You can read more about us in Ian Burrell's recent column here: https://inews.co.uk/news/media/blackpool-bolton-media-experiment-2888889
We are interested in stories about climate change, the environment, housing, race, migration, inequality of all sorts, education, justice (and lack thereof) healthcare and the far right, primarily. All those can come from a national or local perspective (and/or a mix of both).
Within these topics, we're keen to hear stories of things done wrong as well as things done right; remarkable stories of community organising or successful campaigns are as welcome as stories of government and corporate malfeasance. That said...
We want stories that nudge readers to do something—to channel anger into action. So don't just tell us about a general injustice: show us the policy or lack thereof that makes it so. Don't just tell us about a solution—examine why it's not being applied and who's responsible.
As mentioned, we are primarily a UK magazine. We don't often cover international stories, but if you have something truly extraordinary and transnational, do pitch. Email to pitches@thelead.uk.
And again: Solidarity. And best of luck.
CONFIDENTIAL NOTE: Reports indicate that The Lead pays £200 to £400, more for special/urgent project." It is recommended that you discuss the rate(s) with the editor upon the acceptance of your pitch.
