Deadline: 7 June 2024
Anto Cerrato, Editor at Sidequest, is looking for pitches:
It’s been a while since I last called on y’all for submissions. As some of you may have seen via updates on youtube and patreon, I spent the end of 2023 and start of 2023 pretty poorly and then spent months playing catch up. But as we come to the end of year 3 of the magazine’s run I’m looking for a little more content to fill out the schedule.
Please note that we’re no longer accepting Pathfinder 2e compatible content in SIDEQUEST, and all mechanics must be compatible with 5e.
Before pitching, please familiarize yourself with the rules for submission over on patreon, and check out the article index to make sure what you are pitching hasn't already been published.
The pitch deadline is Friday, June 7th 2024. After this time I will review all pitches and decide which ones will progress to the outline stage.
NEW PAY RATES
Our pay rates have increased from $0.10/word to $0.12/word which will apply to all work completed for this submission and beyond.
HOW TO PITCH
Please email your pitches to info@icarus-games.co.uk with the following subject format; “SIDEQUEST Pitch, [Pitch Name], [System], [Your Name]”, for example “SIDEQUEST Pitch, 5e, Alchemist Class, Anto Cerrato”.
Once you’ve submitted your pitch it will be reviewed following the process outlined here.
DO NOT PITCH ME
Full Classes or Subclasses (We are not looking for new player-focused content so close to the release of the new PHB).
Ancestries
Spells
Repeated material: Please do not submit work you have published elsewhere on the internet, and look over the article index to make sure you're not pitching thematically similar things to previous articles.
PLEASE PITCH ME
Monsters: We’re looking for unique monsters for future issues. Monster articles should include lore and mechanics for D&D 5e, with a total word count of no more than 2,000 words. These feature monsters will have art associated with them, so we are looking for monsters that have a strong visual identity and are mechanically interesting - not just two claw attacks and a bite!
Short Adventures: We are looking for short adventures (max 2,000 words), designed to be played in a single session (2 sessions max). Our full adventure guidelines can be found here.
Magic Items: We’re looking for multiple articles dedicated to magic items. Please pitch magic items in minimum groupings of 6 items. They don’t need to be related items or share a theme.
Complex Traps & Puzzles: If you’ve got unique and exciting traps or puzzles that GMs can put in front of their players, we want to see them! Shorter traps and puzzles should be bundled together so that the combined word count is approximately 1,000 words.
Open Pitch: Feel free to pitch anything not listed in the do not pitch section.
THE SETTING OF ISTAR
In year 3 of SIDEQUEST we are putting a greater emphasis on developing our campaign setting of Istar, which has had some content produced for it over the course of the last 2 years of the 'zine. The intention is that every article will include at least some context about this world and setting.
It is not necessary for your articles to contain specific references to the Istar setting, but if you wish to set you articles more firmly in this world, you can find a setting guide by clicking the link below.
During the course of writing your articles, you can always ask more questions about the setting to learn more.
