Jennifer Sahn, Editor in Chief of High Country News, is looking for pitches:
Attention freelance writers: High Country News is looking for longform feature, profile & investigative pitches about Alaska by Alaska Native and Alaska-based journalists.
There can and should be a strong focus on Indigenous communities and perspectives, and successful pitches will come from those with deep connections with the people/places in the proposed story.
We are particularly interested in conservation and environment stories, stories with accountability components, or stories with relevance for the upcoming election season or the environment — we also love any stories in the realm of the weird and the wonderful!
Please read our Alaska stories, submission guidelines and the Indigenous Journalists Association’s reporting resources before pitching features@hcn.org.
We are looking to assign a few pieces fairly soon but this is an ongoing need and area of interest for us.
