Michael Kelly, Founder of Shelfy, is looking for pitches:
Nora Ephron’s popularity peaked 25+ years ago, but Xander Galbraith explains why her perspective is still relevant today. In movies like You’ve Got Mail and in her personal writing, she demonstrates an ambivalent relationship with technology that's never been more relatable.
Thanks to supportive people/organizations, we’ve received hundreds of pitches since opening our Editorial platform. There are so many great stories and writers without a home right now as the media industry continues to crumble.
I wish we could run all the amazing submissions we’ve received, but this story really stopped me in my tracks. It hits that sweet spot of capturing a unique, individual perspective that still manages to be broadly relatable.
We want to run more articles like this on evergreen topics and impactful people that will still be relevant 10+ years from now. If you’re a thoughtful culture writer looking for a home, we hope you’ll consider Shelfy.
And if you’re a culture nerd of any kind, we'd love to have you as a Shelfy member. It’s a special place to nurture the thoughtfulness and curiosity that drives you to seek out new experiences and relish the good ones. It’s for real people recommending real things.

TO HELP YOU CRAFT YOUR PITCH:
Learn more about the publication: Shelfy Editorial brings post-metrics thesis to the forefront of cultural criticism. It is a platform where culture is dissected and celebrated through the lens of its long-term resonance rather than short-term relevance. Expect features on everything from overlooked music scenes and underrepresented artists, to broader cultural trends and undercurrents. More information here.
Review the submission guidelines here.
Check out our collection of pitch excerpts on this page and find more sample pitches at The Open Notebook and at SuccessfulPitches.com.
Do not forget to end your pitch with (1) a short introduction about yourself; (2) a few lines highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits; and (3) links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.
