Maybelle Morgan, Assistant Features Editor at iNews, is looking for pitches:
I am looking for a writer:
that has dropped their dad's surname from their name/legally changed it whether it's because of estrangement or strained relationship
who is an only child to explore what they want their parents to know/wish they'd known (maybe being suffocated by the attention/feeling lonely/how it's affected your personality)
that has given birth in the UK and given birth elsewhere (somewhere in Europe ideally) to talk about the difference
who have moved away from London and regretted it or realised it wasn't what they thought. whether it's to the seaside, away far from your family, to a tourist trap/hot spot
When pitching or responding to journo requests, always include a sentence about yourself, including bylines or other publications you've written for, as well as a couple of links to your writing relevant to the specific pitch.
It saves me from having to ask/back and forth emailing. And if another writer responds who has done these things (and they're well matched to the pitch, obviously) and the pitch is time sensitive, I'm much more likely to go with them.
I know it may seem formal, especially if we've emailed a couple of times, but my memory is seriously awful—this plus the fact I receive around 30+ pitches a day. I think it's such a quick thing to paste into an email to nudge an editor on who you are.
There are editors I've worked with for years, and I still do it automatically when I pitch because I don't want to assume they remember who I've written for or the topics I specialize in. Anyway, just a little suggestion.
CONFIDENTIAL NOTE: Reports indicate that iNews pays 25p per word. It is recommended that you discuss the rate(s) with the editor upon the acceptance of your pitch.
