Starlight Williams, Editor at National Geographic Travel, is looking for pitches:
Unsolicited reminder that I am always open to well-thought-out pitches. Currently, I'm looking for stories that will have an immediate impact on our readers. Less evergreens and niche topics and more stories that are currently timely/trending to a wide-ranging audience.
EXAMPLES:
Bonus points for stories that are conversation starters, answer questions you and your friends have asked, or have a supernatural/surprising/with twist.
Email: starlight.williams@natgeo.com (please don't LinkedIn or Instagram DM me pitches. It will be months before I ever see them.)
MY IDEAL PITCH IS:
Sample headline/deck: if you can't figure this out, you have a topic not a story
Nut graph: The 5 W's, emphasis on the WHY ARE YOU TELLING THIS STORY NOW (superlatives, global appeal, new take, timely news, etc.).
Bio/clips
That's it. If you can't figure the above out, I'm probably going to pass.
