Educators, do you want to share your expertise? Perhaps you have a favorite engagement strategy or an aha moment that helped you rethink your approach. We welcome pitches on all academic subjects and grades from pre-K to 12. Here are some tips on how to pitch to us:
We're always on the hunt for great stories, especially those that touch on our core strategies: tech integration, comprehensive assessment, integrated studies, project-based learning, social and emotional learning, and professional learning.
The pitches that stand out the most to us have some of the following characteristics:
They include actions that teachers and school leaders can take. Our writers don’t spend a lot of time describing problems—they focus on solutions.
The pitches don’t include teaching, leadership, or coaching strategies that might work, but strategies you’ve actually used in the classroom or in a school or district and have had success with.
The pitches are detailed. For example, instead of writing, “I have strategies for boosting participation in high school social studies,” tell us exactly what those strategies are.
The writing has a positive and encouraging tone: Our articles don’t set out to tell teachers and school leaders things they must do, but rather share things they can do.
The pitches make clear what your role is—teacher, instructional coach, school leader, educational consultant, etc.—and whether you have used a particular strategy yourself or have guided teachers and school leaders to use it.
The pitches explain the outcomes you have seen. If you pitch an idea on teacher retention, for example, do you have clear evidence that the strategy helped you retain teachers? If you pitch an idea on boosting student engagement, can you be pretty sure that it worked?
