CALL FOR PITCHES:
We invite you to join our growing list of contributors writing about STEM’s most pressing issues. We are currently accepting pitches on the following:
Back to [____]. What does “back to school” mean for you this year? Are you going back to organizing and protesting? New restrictions on protesting? Back to navigating COVID? Back to the threat of mask bans? Some optional prompts to consider:
What do you care about that you wish your university also cared about?
How are you mobilizing your campus? What have you learned and what advice can you share?
This is an open-ended call for STEM students or faculty to share their perspectives in the form of short essays and op-eds. Pitches will be accepted on a rolling basis. Please submit your pitch below!
Guidelines and Tips
What do we look for? We accept pieces that 1) Illuminate the lived experiences of people in STEM, especially those who have been historically marginalized 2) Push the boundaries of the conversation by offering a new question, angle, or perspective.
Final articles should be approximately 700-1,000 words in length. We encourage a conversational, non-technical tone, and recommend against long, dense paragraphs.
Who can write for us? We aim to amplify historically marginalized voices in STEM. Our authors are gender minorities, people of color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, first-generation students, New Americans, and more.
Are authors paid? We offer authors a $125 honorarium for each published piece.
