Our publishing company is seeking a versatile and creative Educational Writers to contribute to the creation, enhancement, and repurposing of educational content for our English Language Arts (ELA) program, grades K-6. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engaging texts, stories, practice exercises, and assessment items, while also collaborating with team members on content editing. Additionally, the role involves developing program resources such as curriculum maps, lesson plans, scope and sequence documents, major-minor mapping, skill progression charts, and alignment charts. Adherence to Alpha's style and sensitivity guidelines is crucial for this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content Creation:
Develop engaging and informative educational content, including texts, stories, practice exercises, and assessment items.
Craft content that aligns with curriculum standards and learning objectives.
Ensure a balance of content types to cater to diverse learning styles.
Create content that is varied and appeals to a wide range of students.
Integrate interactive elements into the content to encourage student engagement.
Design activities that promote hands-on learning experiences.
Develop content that empowers students to take an active role in their learning process.
Provide opportunities for independent thinking and problem-solving.
Content Repurposing and Editing:
Edit and repurpose existing educational content to enhance clarity and alignment with current standards.
Maintain consistency in tone, style, and educational approach.
Ensure edited content meets high-quality standards and educational objectives.
Collaboration with Publishing Team:
Collaborate with team members, including editors, designers, and illustrators, to integrate written content seamlessly.
Contribute to team discussions on content development and improvements.
Adherence to Alpha Style and Sensitivity Guide:
Strictly adhere to style and sensitivity guidelines provided by Alpha.
Sensitively address diverse perspectives and cultural considerations in content development.
Program Resources Development:
Develop program resources, including curriculum maps, lesson plans, scope and sequence documents, major-minor mapping, skill progression charts, and alignment charts.
Ensure alignment with program goals and objectives.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct quality assurance checks on all developed resources, verifying accuracy and adherence to guidelines.
Revise and improve resources based on feedback.
Deadline Management:
Work within tight schedules and meet deadlines for content creation and editing.
Prioritize tasks effectively to ensure timely delivery of high-quality educational materials.
Strong Communication Skills:
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate progress on projects.
Live Document Collaboration:
Ability to work in live documents, collaborating with team members in real-time.
Responsiveness to document changes and updates during collaborative editing processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Creative Writing, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Proven experience in educational writing, editing, and content development. Familiarity with curriculum standards and educational pedagogy.
Creativity: Strong creative and imaginative thinking to develop captivating and educational content.
Collaboration Skills: Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt writing style and content to different age groups and grade levels.
Style Guide Adherence: Strong ability to adhere to style and sensitivity guides, ensuring culturally sensitive and inclusive content.
Additional Requirement: Experience writing content for student-facing textbooks, including passages, student-facing lessons, workbook/ancillary pages, student books, and exercises/assessments.
CONTRACT DETAILS:
Contract Type: Independent Contractor Agreement - Freelance
Reporting Manager: Senior Content Editor
Working Hours: 8 hours/day.
Working Days: Monday-Friday
Agreement Period: 1 year.
Start Date: Immediately.
Salary: $5600 Monthly.
