Catalogers/Writers wanted (violence, transformative justice) | $150 per article

COMPANY/PUBLICATION: IN OUR NAMES NETWORK

Deadline: 15 September 2024

Join our Catalogers Cohort! We are recruiting writers, survivors of police violence, and creatives as investigative catalogers. Rate is $150 per article.

VISION

We believe that safety from all forms of violence for Black women, girls, trans and gender nonconforming people lies in a world without policing where all of our needs are met accessible and abundantly; in which our communities are not just a place, but a way of being committed to violence prevention, intervention, healing, and transformative justice; and where we nurture a luscious imagination and live into the maintenance of safety, liberation, and freedom.

MISSION

Our mission is to support and amplify network members’ calls to action, resources, and local campaigns to prevent and demand accountability for individual cases and systemic police violence against Black women, girls, trans and gender nonconforming people, and to leverage our collective power through nationally networked campaigns to bring about systemic change.

CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW

The Black Feminist Vision to End the War On Drug campaign developed its goals from the transnational convening report and framework. The campaign is composed of members from the network and ecology to protect Black women, girls, trans, gender non-conforming people who are drug users from police-sanctioned violence. Over 5 months, the campaign will research and connect with organizations and grassroots groups that have Black feminist values and provide aid and care to drug users. Each month they will publish an article that highlights the organization, their contact information, a list of local resources, and policy updates based on the issue or region. The articles will create a catalog that will be updated monthly featuring examples of Black transnational & queer leadership against the war on drugs, serving as the foundation for achieving concrete action from the transnational convening report and framework:

CAMPAIGN GOALS

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMITMENTS

To support with capacity and expand the network's research we will contract 3 people for the 2024 Black Feminist Vision to End The War on Drug catalogers to support in identifying organizations that have unique skills in supporting Black women, girls, trans, and gender non-conforming people who may use drug and draft articles highlighting them. One out of three Black feminist catalogers will review policies that affect Black women, girls, trans, and gender non-conforming people who use drugs on a transnational scale.

Alongside our member partners, will review the articles monthly and provide editorial review guidance to the Black feminist catalogers

The goal is to have the 2024 cohort support and identify additional potential for the In Our Names Network members, and partners for the global care network, in order to have a clear landscape analysis for the war on drugs transnationally.

Catalogers will serve from October 2024- February 2025 with the following deliverables:
