Dennis Hogan, Editor at Public Books, is looking for pitches:
I’m now editing the Higher Ed section for Public Books! I’m interested in a wide ranger of higher ed pieces, especially structural analysis of the sector; labor and academic freedom; diversity and inequality on campus; and the nonprofit/healthcare/education nexus. Pitch me!
Always looking for: book reviews, accessible essays that distill cutting edge scholarship (your own work or your engagement with work in the field), and thoughtful essays that connect personal experience to larger issues.
Public books runs all kinds of pieces—take a look at the website! But I’m specifically commissioning pieces related to higher ed.
Find my email on my website linked in bio.
CONFIDENTIAL NOTE: Reports indicate that "authors who have a tenured or tenure track job at university are not paid. Other writers—freelance, adjunct or contingent academics—are eligible for $150 per piece honorarium. People who don't fall into either category are considered on a case by case basis." It is recommended that you discuss the rate(s) with the editor upon the acceptance of your pitch.
