Yes, this is true. The metaphor is helpful - I see now that I was behaving like a boat, hitching myself to another boat in a past relationship. I won’t make that mistake again. I am building up an island, and it is bearing the fruit Alexander talks about.

It's a good metaphor. Interesting though that the women in boats more resemble sperm with direction, seeking a fertile landing-place, and the men on the islands are like stationary eggs waiting for the boat to turn up, Maybe when the woman stays long enough, and the man is confident she will not leave, he can reciprocate with his flotilla of little speedboats seeking her egg. Ideally, the child will be born with a stable relationship with both parents and fertile land to live on. We seem to be a little distant from that in these modern times.
