Brooke Jackson-Glidden, Editor in Chief of Portland Monthly, is looking for pitches:
To all the Oregon-based writers out there: We are seeking pitches for our 2025 issues! Generally, I’m looking for compelling, longform-ish (think: 2,000-3,000 word) features and shorter form (500-1,000 word) News & City Life pitches. Guidelines here: https://www.pdxmonthly.com/pages/writers-guidelines
I am generally excited by pitches that fill a gap in our coverage. We have a strong team of food, arts, culture, lifestyle, travel, and outdoor writers on our team. I’m seeking narrative features, political explainers, true crime longform, civic journalism, labor stories—harder news, in general.
I want people to pick up a copy of PoMo and feel like they have a sense of what it’s like to live here. What are the stories that come up again and again? How can we tell them in a deeper, richer way? What are the stories that aren’t being told, and how do we tell those stories responsibly?
Generally, rates live between $.60-$1 per word, depending on the reporting and research required.
