Pitches wanted (efficiency, adventure, outdoors) | 50+ cents per word

Trailsmag.net is looking for pitches for Issues 10 and 11!
Some background: We give each issue a "thread." We don't advertise it to readers or splash it across the cover. It's usually something kind of vague and open to interpretation—and that's exactly what we want writers to do. The hope is it just makes each story subtly feel like it belongs.
The thread for 10 is Efficiency. We still need a couple features. Thru-hiking or Ultralight feels obvious. Something reported would be great. Profiles of fast/lightweight/efficient hikers. Looks at unique UL brands. Save time or pack weight, etc.
We also need an Outhouse Review, recipe, and a handful of Blazes (basically the same topics as the features, but only 400 to 600 words) to fill out that issue. Deadlines for Issue 10 are February and March.
Issue 11's thread is Connection. To other people, to places, to trails, to gear...whatever. Connections between other inanimate objects? We're pretty much a blank slate for this issue so pitch away. I'd love to start booking some of the longer features. Deadlines here will be around May.

Trails Magazine is the only magazine for backpackers, hikers, and people who like to sleep in the dirt. (It's worth mentioning, backpacking in the sense of wilderness camping, not backpacking across Europe.) We focus primarily on North America. We pay $0.50/word MINIMUM!
