How to Pitch:

Standard essay rates start at $0.50/word, negotiable for reported pieces. Q&As are paid out at $250.
Pieces are generally commissioned at around 500–800 or 800–1000 words. We do occasionally go longer.
What to Pitch:
Blank is a newsletter about books and the culture around them.
We are interested in metanarratives about the publishing industry that other people are missing, especially if they can be backed up with numbers.
We publish excellent book excerpts from large and small publishers alike, author Q&A’s, and reviews that go beyond a single title.
We also publish short fiction in the 1,000 to 3,000-word range. Past stories include Splitting the Rabbit by Erin Somers and Our Funeral by Stephanie Wambugu. For fiction submissions, please email fiction@dirt.fyi and include “FICTION” in the subject line. We typically pay $250 for fiction.
