Deadline: 3 April 2025
Since 1990, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation has produced the Frank Lloyd Wright Quarterly magazine. This year, Foundation is exploring critical modernism through the lens of Wright's organic architecture, focusing on its influence on workplaces, homes, and technology. In our upcoming second issue, we're examining how the industrial revolution shaped modern offices—separating home from work, production from administration, and introducing new class and gender dynamics. Wright's iconic designs, such as the Larkin Building and Johnson Wax Headquarters, transformed workplaces by emphasizing light, openness, functionality, worker morale, and corporate hierarchy. We're interested in how his ideas hold up today, considering remote work, coworking spaces, and a renewed emphasis on well-being and sustainability. We invite articles that explore the evolution of office spaces from the late 1800s to the present, connecting to Wright's work and examining how modern office design reflects cultural shifts.
The Workplace edition is scheduled for publication in June 2025, with draft articles due by April 10, 2025, and final articles by April 17, 2025. Two articles are desired, each between 1,000 and 1,400 words. Each article should have a bias toward contemporary and future work and workplaces, without losing a connection to the past. Compensation is up to $0.40 per word.
