Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles welcomes pitches for issue #41 (out in August) in the following categories: critical essays, reviews, interviews, and photo essays. Pitches are due 4/14. PITCH CALL FOR CARLA ISSUE #41
Firstly, I'd like to introduce myself as Carla's new managing editor: I'm Evan, a writer, editor, and arts & culture journalist from Mid-City LA, and am thrilled to be a part of this organization. Looking forward to working with you all as we continue to publish this fantastic and essential magazine!
We are accepting pitches for Carla's 41st issue, which will launch in August!
If you're interested in contributing, please send your pitch by April 14. We will be notifying writers on the 21st and selected texts will be due on May 12. Editing will happen through early June ahead of publication later on in the summer.

CATEGORIES AND RATES:
Feature essay, $375, 1,500–2,000 words: Critical discussion of issues relevant to art and culture, that may or may not specifically reference the region, but should be grounded in current exhibitions, events, artworks, or issues.
Interview, $350, 1,200–1,500 words: Dynamic and inventive interviews with L.A.-based artists or curators.
Photo Essay, $375: This is open for pitches again! We're looking for pitches documenting stories about art, artists, or culture in Los Angeles. The number of images depends on the proposed project and format, but is generally no fewer than six, and as many as 10+.
Review, $200, 650–850 words: Must be on view in L.A. (or only recently closed) at the time of pitching.

The form includes a place to paste a brief, one- or two-paragraph pitch detailing your proposed topic/exhibition and angle. We are looking for pitches that give a strong sense of the thesis/critical framework and shape some of the core ideas of your article.
If you have not previously worked with us, please send 2–3 writing samples/links to previously published arts writing. And don't forget to review our archive before submitting—with occasional exceptions, we do not cover the same artist or space for at least 6–12 months!
