Bridget Olson, Features Editor at Allrecipes.com, is looking for pitches:
Calling all Midwest-loving freelance writers!
Allrecipes.com is putting together “Midwest Salad Week”—a full week devoted to the quirky, colorful, and comforting world of Midwest salads. If your ears perk up at the mention of Jell-O salad, cookie salad, ramen salad, or seven-layer salad, this is for you!
We’re looking for pitches that celebrate these retro favorites—think nostalgic recipes, regional deep-dives, interviews with Midwest salad experts, and secrets to building better salads.
If you have a fun idea that fits this theme, send your pitch and 2–3 writing samples to bridget.olson@dotdashmdp.com.
We’re aiming to launch in early summer, so the sooner the better!
And if Midwest salads aren’t in your wheelhouse, I’m always open to great feature ideas that fit the Allrecipes vibe: endearing stories about home cooks, deep dives into regional food traditions, larger cultural food trends, and more.
The standard rate is around 50 cents per word, depending on experience and how complex the assignment is.
