All The Best is seeking pitches for short audio documentaries and narrative journalism. We’re looking for story pitches around 12 - 15 minutes in length.

DEADLINE EXTENDED! Applications close at 6pm AEST on Monday August 18th.

We’ll consider story pitches on any theme, but if you’re stuck on ideas, here’s a few story prompts we’ve been thinking about:

~ light + dark: it’s twilight, it’s liminal, it’s opposites, it’s part of the whole. What stories hold the visible and the hidden at once? Can you ever really see one without the other?

~ this is the way: stories about finding the path. Divine intervention, a calling, scripture, rules to live by/be guided by. Epiphanies, homecoming, a higher purpose. Are you where you need to be?

~ solid space: losing physical places. A favourite noodle shop. An old record store, a gallery. A long-standing sharehouse. Are the spaces we can exist in outside work/home shrinking and what - if anything - is taking their place?

~ The trail: Stories about surveillance/tracking. Algorithmic precision. Tracking endangered species. Your sleep cycle. Google Home + Location Data. Being watched. 👁️

~ babel: Language. Tongues. Translations. Misunderstandings. You get me....AI therapy?

~ memory card: do you remember it like it was yesterday? Or is it hard to remember what you even had for breakfast? Dissonance in personal, familial and collective memories.

All levels of experience and story-genres are welcome.

HOW IT WORKS!

• Pitch your idea for an original story (12 - 15 minutes) to be made with All The Best.

• If your story is selected, we'll have a preliminary chat and talk through any of the editorial or technical challenges specific to your story.

• We'll pair you with a suitable mentor and together set and agree on a timeline. If you need access to equipment or to partner with creatives with specific expertise, ATB will provide support and point you in the right direction.

• A 12-15 minute original story will receive a $200 honorarium when the final story is delivered.

Can I pitch a written story to be adapted to audio?

This time we're looking for original audio stories you want to produce. Original means your own story research, interviews and scripting through to the final production stage. We do collaborate with writers to adapt work to audio, but this doesn't come under our current pitch round. When will the story-making happen? And how long will it take?

If your story is suitable for production and broadcast with All The Best, we'll be in touch by Friday August 15th.

Depending on the scope of your story idea, stories usually take 12-30 hours over 4-6 weeks to produce. You'll set your production timeline with your Supervising Producer, so you can align it with holidays, Uni breaks etc.

What kind of experience do I need to have?

We work with all levels of experience!

If you've never made a story before, the best way to learn is to start! We'll provide resources, answer questions and your Supervising Producer will be able to share feedback on your drafts.

If you're already a seasoned storyteller but have an unconventional idea or project we'd love to hear it.

What if I don't have all of the skills to make my story idea heard?

Think you might need to work with a voice actor, composer or immersive sound designer? All The Best can help you connect with other creatives in our network. We can't guarantee someone will be available to work on your story, but we'll help you explore networks and options to bring your story to life.

How does payment work?

Story-makers are paid upon delivery of their story. Full details will be shared upon story selection.
