Submissions wanted (Scottish Gaelic poetry for children) | £200 to £300 per poem
Added 2025-08-21 10:39:16 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: THE SCOTTISH POETRY LIBRARY
Deadline: 31 August 2025
The Scottish Poetry Library and Gaelic Books Council are collaborating to remedy the lack of contemporary Scottish Gaelic poetry for children. We are seeking new poems intended for young people of primary school-age. This is an exciting opportunity for all Gaelic poets, and the selected works will be launched at the Gaelic Book Awards on 16th September 2025.
Selected poets will receive £200 for their poem plus £100 for an audio recording, which will be added to our website and digital platforms.
The guest editor is Peter Mackay, Scotland’s Makar – our national poet. Peter will select a total of 10 works from the submissions, which will be added to an online anthology of new children’s poems in Scottish Gaelic. We plan to make this public on our website available before the end of October.
ENTRY RULES:
Poets will be based in the UK, and over the age of 16.
Works will be anonymised before selection.
Submitted work must be new and not previously published. Submissions must be written without the help of generative AI.
Each entrant may submit up to three poems. A parallel translation is not necessary.
Permissions to reproduce the poem in an online anthology are requested as a condition of submission.
The deadline for receipt of your submission is midnight on 31st August 2025.
