I am the managing editor for SERO Project's publication for incarcerated individuals: Turn It Up! I'm excited to share our pitch call for this year's issue: "Aging on the Inside." Rate: $150 per article. Word count: 400-600 words. See guidelines for more.
PITCH CALL:
Turn It Up! is read by incarcerated people across the country, policy advocates, attorneys, allies, and those living with HIV.
We welcome stories that speak to our people inside while educating those with the power to change conditions on the outside.
STORIES CAN INCLUDE:
Essays and firsthand narratives written by incarcerated people or newly released people that focus on how they were able to create change in their facility.
How changes helped them overcome a particular outcome or obstacle.
Features on new laws and programs that empower incarcerated individuals.
Features on wardens who are working to educate and empower their inmates or improve their facilities.
Resource guides for services that exist for people who are about to be released or are newly released.
Interviews with legislators who are leading the change.
Profiles on organizations that are actively assisting incarcerated people with their long term care and opportunities for the future.
A look at laws that might have fixed a problem, but ended up creating new issues. (Please note that this list is not exhaustive and that other ideas outside of this scope are welcome).
Updates on previous statutes that might assist incarcerated individuals.
