Wayword Media is always looking for freelance travel stories to commission for the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest daily print newspaper and one of the country’s biggest online news sites. Stories typically range from 600 to 1,000 words and should go beyond straightforward travelogues, offering readers sharp, specific angles and fresh perspectives. Formats include destination features, personal essays, trend stories, and service pieces, with a preference for evocative writing that brings places and experiences vividly to life. Writers may be based in or outside Canada, and pitches should be concise and targeted, not full drafts. Accepted articles generally pay $300–$500 CAD inclusive of photos, with payment made within 30 days of final acceptance.
