2025 Sejong International Sijo Competition
Submission deadline: September 30, 2025 (11:59pm CDT USA)
Sejong Cultural Society has been hosting Sejong Writing Competition (Essay and Sijo Category) since 2008 for USA and Canada residents only. Due to the many requests from around the world, we have decided to offer a separate INTERNATIONAL Sijo Competition. This is the 5th Sejong International Sijo Competition. Please note that this is a different competition from the Annual Sejong Writing Competition (Essay/Sijo).
Division: one division
ELIGIBILITY:
Age: all age
Nationality: any nationality (including USA and Canada)
Winners of previous Sejong International Competition are not eligible.
REQUIREMENTS:
Sijo must be written in ENGLISH
Only one entry per applicant is permitted
Previously published or awarded SIJO is not accepted
Submit an entry by September 30, 2025
PRIZE:
Winner: $500 USD
Runner-up: $250 USD
Honorable Mentions: $100 USD

SIJO:
The sijo is a traditional three-line Korean poetic form organized technically and thematically by line and syllable count. Using the sijo form, write one poem in English on a topic of your choice.
