Pitches wanted (creator economy, communities) | 50 cents per word
Added 2025-07-18 22:05:21 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: CREATOR SPOTLIGHT
Deadline: 1 August 2025
We’re looking for freelance writers to contribute to Creator Spotlight.
Creator Spotlight is a publication covering how creators build and manage their businesses. It includes a podcast and a twice-weekly newsletter. Our audience comprises professional and amateur creators, traditional media professionals, and entrepreneurs who provide services to both groups. We are owned and operated by beehiiv.
THE DEFINITION OF “CREATOR” WE OPERATE WITH, WHICH GUIDES OUR COVERAGE, HAS THREE PARTS:
A person creating digital media for distribution on digital platforms …
Who is working to grow an audience beyond their friends and family …
And is monetizing that content and audience, whether directly or indirectly.
If you’re looking for a more in-depth understanding of our approach, we frequently write about it. As a publication, we are optimistic about the potential of the creator economy but critical of its shortfalls. Our work aims to help people and businesses thrive in this industry.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN THIS ROUND OF PITCHES:
Trend analysis (i.e., the rise of creator-centered communities).
Industry commentary (i.e., the corporatizing creator economy).
Practical how-to pieces about unique audience growth or monetization plays.
Multi-source reporting on a specific creator economy niche.
Data journalism.
Media criticism.
Etc. — if you can convince us it’s useful and compelling for our audience, we’ll consider it!
WHAT WE’RE NOT LOOKING FOR:
Case studies of specific creators (or pitches for our podcast).
Overly-covered subjects without a new angle.
Basic platform tutorials or general social media advice.
Personal essays that don't include concrete takeaways for other creators.
Press releases or promotional content.
WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOUR PITCH IS ACCEPTED:
Final pieces will be between 750–1,500 words.
We will pay $0.50 per word.
We will review and reply to every pitch within one week of receipt. If we don’t, please follow up.
We will provide full editorial support, including feedback, revision, and graphic design.
While we hold first publication rights, pieces can be published later in your own newsletter after a month (with credit to our publication).
HOW TO PITCH US:
Email editor@creatorspotlight.com with “Q3 2025 Pitch” in the subject line.
Keep it short! Your pitch should be no more than 150 words.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work. No more than 100 words.
Provide links to no more than three past works.
Share a link to your website, LinkedIn, or other public-facing portfolio.
Please submit before August 1st, when we will close this window. This round of pitches is intended for publication between August 15th and September 26th.
