ABOUT THE ROLE

Nebraska Life Magazine is seeking skilled Writing & Photography Correspondents to help tell the story of our state. For more than two decades, we’ve published richly reported, beautifully photographed features that celebrate Nebraska’s people, places, and traditions. Our readers are loyal print subscribers – Nebraskans who want to explore their state more deeply and meaningfully.

We’re seeking contributors who can help bring those stories to life.

WHO YOU ARE

You’re a writer, photographer – or both – with a sharp eye for story, a love for Nebraska, and the skills to match. You enjoy traveling to small towns, meeting new people, and capturing voices and visuals that resonate on the page. Whether you come from journalism, magazine writing, photography, or all of the above, you value substance, accuracy, and storytelling that feels as authentic as it is artful.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Writers with a strong portfolio of engaging, well-researched feature writing

• Photographers with experience in editorial, environmental, or lifestyle photography for print

• Individuals who can do both writing and photography are especially encouraged to apply

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• Excellent interviewing and research skills

• Proficiency in AP style and clean, concise copywriting

• Experience with DSLR or mirrorless cameras

• Adobe Photoshop for basic photo prep

• Understanding of magazine structure and pacing

• Willingness to travel – whether across the state, within your region, or around your home community

• An appreciation for print media and longform storytelling

• Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to editorial feedback

BONUS:

• Background in journalism, marketing or travel writing

• Familiarity with Nebraska’s communities, culture and geography

COMPENSATION:

• Freelance / contract position

• Paid per word and per photo published in Nebraska Life Magazine
