Through the heyday of the timber industry to the rise of palm oil, West Kalimantan’s peatlands became ground zero for its many turns of fate.
Indonesian researcher and ethnographer Ratu Tammi retraces how corporate greed has exploited legal loopholes, fueling erasures of indigenous wisdom and ecological loss under the banner of “national development” in the peatlands of Sambas, West Kalimantan.
