The Westrn is currently accepting submissions for its Fall and Winter issues, with a focus on stories about outdoor adventure and recreation, hunting and fishing, wildlife, environmental science, rural life, sustainable foodways, and outdoor culture. Editors are looking for narratives with voice, tension, and characters, whether they are personal essays, analysis, criticism, profiles, or stories that reveal the human side of the outdoors. Ideal stories are 600 to 1,500 words, and pitches should be one to three paragraphs sent in the body of an email, with rates ranging from $300 to $750 depending on depth and writer experience.
