Greater Good (the online magazine of the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley) rarely accepts unsolicited submissions, but they make an exception for personal essays and welcome pitches from experienced journalists, academic experts, or practitioners in relevant fields. Topics should focus on scientific findings about well-being, compassionate behavior, relationships, or social issues—with practical implications for readers. Pitches (not full drafts) are expected. GGSC pays a base rate of $0.25 per assigned word, with flat rates for certain formats: $220 for research briefs, $300 for Q&As, $300 for personal essays, and negotiated rates for adapted or revised content.
