We cover a wide range of food-related topics with a focus on sustainability: industry trends, food policy, labor issues, animal welfare, pesticides and pollution, packaging and plastics, food sovereignty and more, all focused on the U.S. and topics that impact U.S. consumers.
We regularly commission analysis and reporting from outside contributors. Please familiarize yourself with our coverage before getting in touch to better understand what types of stories we publish and how we approach them.
In your pitch, give us a sense of the subject matter — especially your proposed angle or argument and what it adds to the conversation — and what sources you plan to interview, plus other relevant people, organizations or companies you would hope to touch on. We ask that you try to give a sense of the Why now? — this can mean a lot of things other than a straightforward “news peg,” but is something we consider when assigning. Please also include a few of your relevant clips and/or a link to your portfolio so we can get to know your work.
Rates range from $650 – $950 depending on experience and the needs of the story. Most pieces run between 800 and 1600 words. Send pitches by email (with “pitch” in the subject line) to kylie@foodprint.org.
