Personal essays on current food insecurity, including loss of SNAP benefits, wanted. Pays $200/essay. Authors retain all rights. Rolling deadline until all 5 essays are commissioned.
Essays should be 1,000–2,500 words and focus on the writer’s current lived experience with food insecurity—how it affects daily life, relationships, health, work, and identity. Priority will be given to pieces that explore the impact of recent SNAP cuts in the United States, though stories from anywhere in the world are welcome. Submissions must be original, unpublished, and non-AI-generated, accompanied by a short bio and a horizontal photo or Unsplash image link. Send entries to opensecretsmag@gmail.com with “Food Insecurity submission” in the subject line. Payment of $200 will be made upon finalization via Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal.
