Writing a whole song - Patreon Only Video

Hey everyone! To follow up with last week's video on song structure, I'd like to walk you through a live example of how it all fits together and what we want to be thinking about when we write our individual sections. Most of what I'm talking about can be read in the 2 page PDF I posted last week.

This week of the final results of the project. Notice this whole 4 minute song can easily be written on one page- a lot of our favorite songs will have this feature.

Like last week, please include feedback on if you find this helpful. This is totally different from my normal videos, as it's all done live and through my DAW, so I'm interested in knowing if you find it informative and watchable.

The next video will focus on the same type of thing but with minor keys instead. If you have questions please include them in the comments here so I can address them in the next video.

Oh, I also have a new YouTube video releasing tomorrow. It is certainly one of the weirder videos I've ever made but I think there is a ton of insight in there regarding song structure. It's also way more cynical than my average video, so I hope you don't take it too personally if you happen to be a fan of modern pop-country.

That's the main topic of the video, and I do take a few cheap shots at the genre, but it's all in good fun. I don't actually believe that music is "good" or "bad" - there's just what we like and what we don't like. Plenty of great jazz artists out there are just hard for me to listen to, meanwhile, I'm a big fan of sampled lo-fi hiphop that can be whipped up with a few clicks of the mouse.

Anyways I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving if you're celebrating this week, and I'll see you tomorrow morning with a new YouTube video and another PDF for you all.

Very helpful video! Learned a lot Since you have experience with Lofi- I’d love you take on structure for that genre. Would also be interested in your ideas for transitions between sections.

This is exactly why I joined. I wrote a really cool Phrygian groove that I’m making into a song. Right now I’m guilty of music malpractice but this gives me a route out
