HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIDE!
You might encounter a chord progression that looks like i - VII, and if you parse it as such, you might be in for a bad time. It's an incredible pair of chords though, and I really things its worth exploring them to see where it takes us and what we can learn from them.
Ultimately, this lesson is about "secondary mixture," which is a complex form of modal mixture. But at the end, it all gets applied in a very simple way. Learning this will enable you to easily work with this 2-chord loop, and also introduce you to another class of chords all together. It also explains why it's a common trick to modulate up a minor third!
This Saturday night at 8PM CT (April 8th) I'll be going live again to answer your questions, and will be posting a thread on the day before to collect them. If you have any questions on this video though, please leave your thoughts here!

For those of you who are interested or curious, I'm about 1/3 through the process of finishing the illustrations for my chord theory book, and am only a week or two away from hiring some folks to get the entire thing formatted for print. I still can't estimate exactly how long that will take but I see the light at the end of the tunnel getting brighter.
This project has been far more challenging than I ever anticipated, and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to having it done. I think it'll be worth it though, and I still believe it will be a wonderful learning and reference resource for you all.
I can't believe how patient you've all been with me during this process, and I thank you deeply for sticking around while I've been at work. To show my thanks for all of you, I'll be providing the E-book edition to you all at a name-your-own-price model once it's available.
For the general public (those weirdos!) they'll have to pay $30. The price point of the physical book will be around $50, but you'll all receive as big of a discount as I can afford on that.
Additionally, the e-book will be sent to everyone who has ever purchased my Theory and Songwriting course as a free upgrade to the course itself. I always intended for that course to improve over time, and I never was happy with how few chords are actually taught throughout it. This should solve all of that!
Thanks for being here - you should hear from me on Friday!
