I'm back!

Hey yall remember me?! The Signals guy??? Happy to say, I’ll be posting here again since I literally can’t work anymore on my book, the Signals Music Chord Progression Codex - I’ve done all I can! It’s a 400+ page tome on individual chords and how they work together to form greater progressions. It should serve as an comprehensive guide for the modern songwriter, but also as an entertaining reference for musicians of all skill levels and styles.

BOOK RELEASE AND PRICING

The remaining bits of work (finalization for printing, final book cover, glossary + table of contents, etc) are out of my hands. I've hired an expert for this work so that it's done quickly and correctly. I can't give an exact date to when their work will conclude, but I expect that I’ll be taking orders and shipping copies before October ends. I've been extremely hesitant to give even a notion of a release date, but I can't currently imagine a scenario where the book ships later than November, barring the arrival of a meteor or similar apocalyptic disruption.

The physical book will sell for 59.99 plus shipping, but you won’t be paying that price. Instead, all Patreon members can pay a flat fee of around $30 and won’t need to worry about shipping costs. I’ll have more concrete numbers once I have physical books and shipping weights to calculate.

The digital version of the book will first be available as an “enhanced PDF” that you can download or access online. They will have the audio examples embedded into the document, allowing you to play them by clicking on them. These digital versions will be available to you Patreon subscribers immediately at whatever price you would like to pay, but will cost roughly $30 for the general public. (In early 2024, I’ll be releasing another digital format for ebooks, but don’t have a lot of info on that right now.)

I’m sincerely hoping that the quality of the book itself, combined with these discounts, will assure you that I deeply appreciate your support for me while I’ve worked on this. I know it’s been quiet here lately, but I don’t want you to mistake that for complacence… I just really found myself in a spot where I needed to dedicate every ounce of my working soul to completing this project, lest it take another year! I’m grateful that so many of you stuck around during this time, and I want to do my best to say thanks.

NEW VIDEOS

Since I’ve done nearly all I can to finish the book, save a few loose ends, I can finally resume making Signals videos. Not gonna lie, I’ve been really missing out on this and am pumped up to make some quality lessons again!

I believe my first lesson back for YouTube will be titled something like “Six Ways We ACTUALLY Use The Modes.” It will go through each of the strategies listed in my book’s chapter on modal harmony. I’ve attached a version of that page along with this post, and you can search back a few months here on my Patreon page to hear me discussing that topic in a lesson.

Before filming and editing such a video, I’ll need to first produce musical examples like usual. These elements take a lot of time, which is why the average signals video takes at least 60 hours to produce. Traditionally, I do these on my own and don’t share them as Patreon content, but this time I think it would be fun to live-stream the process.

Yes, this will “spoil” the lesson content, but I know that some of you will appreciate seeing the process from the ground up instead of only watching the polished end-product on YouTube! I won’t have a set schedule for livestreaming but will begin next week and will notify you all an hour ahead of time as to when a session begins by making a post here along with a link.

Q+A THIS SUNDAY

Saturday, I’ll post a thread to gather questions for a live Q+A that will occur Sunday evening (9/24) at 8PM CT. It’s been waaaay too long since I’ve done one of these, so there may be a lot of questions! If there’s too many for one stream, I’ll break it into two sessions.

That’s all for now! I’ll leave you with an obvious fact – I’m insanely excited to get this book into your hands. I’ve put every bit of effort, time, and money that I could afford into creating an educational resource that I believe is like none other. I’m confident that you’ll find it informative, easy to understand, comprehensive, and fun. Basically, I think you’re going to love it!

Oh and one last thing – If you’ve sent me messages during my sabbatical, I will read them this week and get back to you. I’ve always done my best to keep up with my inbox but I’ve absolutely ignored anything that didn’t involve BOOK for the last 5 months or so… apologies! If you don’t hear from me in a week though, please try getting ahold of me again, as I may have lost your message in Patreon. You can always contact me directly at signalsmusicjake@gmail.com also.

Welcome back! (even though *I* just joined - heh...) When I first started my YouTube music theory journey a few years back, you were one of the very first people that I watched. I just want to say that I recently went back and watched some older videos and the concepts are sticking. I'm finding that the stuff in my head and the stuff that I am making are finally getting a lot closer. Thank you, very much, for all that you have done and offered - just - for free. It's amazing work. Thank you. I mean that. I am definitely interested in a physical copy of the book. :)
