EXCELLENT WORK. Make sure to watch week 3's intro and outro to hear more thoughts on your stuff.

Grading your Week 2 Submissions

I'd much rather have you here than Stevie T of YouTube fame 😁

I can only agree with all the previous speakers. I was so impressed by the amount of creativity and musicality that was unleashedin just one week. Thank you so much, Jake, for your kind review. It was so on point and every single word was so true. And I have to admit that I was as excited as a little kid when it came to my submission. My heart was really pounding because it was my very first time taking part in something like this. I've always been too shy to present my compositions to an audience bigger than my family and friends. Of course, my wife was dragged in front of the computer for the review to share this moment with me. That was really something special. Unfortunately I won't be able to send anything in this week, as I'll be out of town from tomorrow on, and my drafts aren't even remotely ready to be sent in. But I'm already looking forward to next week!

Thank you for this mammoth effort! It really is a bonus lesson, to hear everyone's great work, and understand (through your analysis) their ideas. I think everyone would understand if you couldn't do this every time though!

Steve K

Also confirming I'm not the Steve Terreberry you mentioned in the video lol, just another Steve T in this world

Steve T

Thanks for the feedback Jake! I had a great time with this and can't wait for the next one

Steve T

Confirming I'm a different Steve T 🤣 not sure who this other Steve T is lol

Steve T

Thanks for the feedback, Jake! I'm not sure why it was so quiet. When I played the .WAV it was the right volume.

Appreciate the feedback, Jake. I do have a lot of respect for your knowledge with music theory and also the way you create your music in what seems such an effortless manner. I can see that you really put the work in though. This Modal Mixture course is really something I needed. I've been dabbling with music for so long without really getting anywhere fast. I think I've tried to do everything isolated, without any real intent to get my music to level that it can get somewhere. I think this community, although small, has a great set of people, and with a great teacher, I think I can open up socially and musically and expand on what potential I know has been simmering under the surface. Looking forward to sending in my next submission. Thanks again for the great content.

Thanks Jake!

Btw I thought “what if this is Steve Terreberry” too 😂

I appreciate the feedback, Jake! I’m seeing my submission as a bridge and then an outro solo as well!

So many really impressive musicians here - thanks for taking the time, Jake! Couple comments: (1) I find your "simple" examples that you include with the lessons INCREDIBLY useful as I personally often struggle to parse through what is happening in a piece of music when there is a lot going on sonically (2) I want to echo your sentiment in the lecture about people maybe not wanting to post because they are insecure/intimidated/[insert any other valid reason]. That was me up until recently and I'll say now being {mostly} on the other side of it, I can honestly say I get most excited when I hear someone who is just starting out share something...seeing other people get into the thing you're into and encouraging them is one of life's joys.

Scott

your piece was highly enjoyable!!!

Jake Lizzio

it's an extremely obscure concept in my opinion! I'm relieved we're on the same page, I've had people argue with me about that chord for real

Jake Lizzio

Holy crap THESE SUBMISSIONS ARE AWESOME! Well done everyone! And the common factor is Jake, thank you for your education! And much appreciated to take the time to review and comment on all of our submissions.

Thanks for the feedback, Jake! After I posted I ran my terminology by a friend who happens to be an orchestral composer and he told me the exact same thing so consider me doubly schooled!
