Stuff that I am doing - 06/10/17

Hello again

So I had a drink with Rob Shearman again at Fantasycon last week (I'm still not used to just thinking of him as "Rob" - you always think of writers by their full credit name for some reason, its weird). Had a lot of fun, he's a lovely man, and he's always full of advice and sets things in perspective. He's told me I shouldn't underestimate the value of my Youtube channel for my writing career in the long run, and he is right. I always just think of it as "some crap I throw together in my spare time" but I have been spending a lot more time on my videos lately, they take a lot longer to put together these days as I'm pretty anal about any small mistakes. Its why I only managed 3 videos last month instead of my usual minimum of 4. I had to keep re-doing bits of my top 5 worst TV shows until I was happy with it. That and everything else I'm doing, y'know, stories etc, its been hard to make the same amount of time for it that I used to. That and my exercise regime I've been managing to keep up since around April, I'm far from the lazy disorganised shit I once was just throwing it together in one draft and one take.

Anyway: on the short story front, over the last few weeks I've worked with a marvellous editor on the final version of A Beautiful Industry for that anthology I've mentioned before. Its looking a lot tidier now and ready for publication (I'm told early November, but you'll definitely hear me jabbering about it on Twitter and the channel nearer the time).

I've also started trying to find an outlet for that story I've mentioned a few times about the End Credits of humanity scrolling across the sky. Really happy with that one. Fingers crossed I can find somewhere that'll accept it. I wanna keep up this momentum I've got going on the story front. I've almost finished another one now, I've written far more this year than I did last year. Only trouble is that not all of it's suitable for Broken Systems which is a bit annoying. Yes I want this book finished but I have my artistic integrity dammit!!!

Anyway: videos. So I've had a bit of a rethink and I've started working a bit differently this month.

Starting with Class: as I've mentioned previously, I have someone else working on one, but this one's CG-animated and neither me nor the guy working on it think's it'll be done soon. Unfortunately, the scripts for Class#7 and #8 I've now realised kind of break the series' universe, so they have to be left till last so swapping them round isn't an option. This creates a problem for my schedule because ideally I'd like a Class video to publish on Halloween. So this week I had an idea for and have written a new script for one (which fortunately I'm very happy with), so my total amount of Class videos I have planned is now 9. The next one is probably going to be the last this year and Classes #6, #7 and #8 will have to appear in the new year at some stage.

Working titles are:

Class#6 - Results Day (Halloween)

Class#7 - Cafeteria Food (CG-animated)

Class#8 - The New Headteacher

Class#9 - Parent's Evening (finale)

Now: because I want Results Day finished for release on Halloween, and these things usually take 2-3 weeks tops, I'm gonna work on that first just to make sure its finished, and then any other videos I manage to get done this month are gonna be a bonus. I'm only scheduling them with the caveat of "if I get time for them". I'm gonna have them going in the background while I work on Class because drawing these takes a lot more time (obviously)

I will only start releasing stuff when I know I've finished all the videos I definitely want to upload this month, so don't panic if you haven't seen anything from me for a couple of weeks, I'm working on stuff, they'll come out when they're ready.

Class#6 - Results Day - Halloween

So you will definitely get at least two of these this month. If I don't get time for the other two, you'll get them next month. 

We good? ...that make sense? I know it was a long and rambly way of explaining this slightly different way I plan on working this month, mostly informed by my desire to get a new class video finished for a deadline, but...I dunno, you watch me, you should know what I'm like by now :p
