Ep 188: Bin Pool Reich w/ Sean and Andy

What do inflation, the London heatwave, 'communisateur' Los Angeles Truckers and the 1990s hardline band Vegan Reich have in common? They are all part of this brand new news episode featuring Sean and Andy! Plenty of scorching takes within about agricultural production, based bin men, inflation as capital in decay and how much means of production must be destroyed before Andy can rest at night.

Hurley was in Vegan Reich. Wentz and Hurley both played in Arma Angelus (with the dude who sings in Rise Against) and Racetraitor at some point. Hurley currently plays in Earth Crisis and I think was involved in the Racetraitor reunion gigs a few years ago. The 90s vegan straight edge metalcore to 00s pop punk pipeline is real

In case anyone was having trouble searching for the book mentioned at 50:10. It’s “Live Work Work Work Die: A Journey into the Savage Heart of Silicon Valley” by Corey Pein

my two cents on inflation: inflation is a problem waaaaaay older than capitalism. as old as money itself. we gotta ask questions such as “what problems do monetary regimes exist to solve?“ and see inflation as their failure. i will put forward that money is first and foremost a way to mediate competition within the ruling class and bw the ruling class and the working classes. inflation is the breakdown of inter-elite consensus and the raising of prices is a way to paper over their conflict by leeching even more from the working classes, the only group without the pricing power to transfer its loss in real income to another group

Its not any/all consumption, but rather factory farming processes.

Regarding the focus on consumption of beef as a ‘baddie’ - pasture raised animals actually help maintain soil fertility and may end up helping fix both carbon and nitrogen in the soil keeping it out of the atmosphere contributing to climate change but I agree Americans in particular should eat less meat. https://smallfarms.cornell.edu/2017/10/building-healthy-pasture-soils/

Inflation is due to declining rate of profit + quasi monopolization: The only place to go is rent-seeking, inflation is just rent cannibalizing consumption

wanted to weigh in a bit on the food system talks: As you discussed these large industrial farming setups are input heavy in terms of fertilizer and *suddenly* countries realize just how vulnerable they are to those price shocks as fertilizer production closely tracks energy costs. That being said a lot can be done on consumer habits (e.g. vegan movements) and "green revolutions" in agriculture, but the failed green revolution experiment in the Indian state of Punjab highlights this creates more issues (in contrast to political reforms in a state like Kerala). The big issue that comes in here (elephant in the room), is the role of IP in the agro industry and how the big GMO/fertilizer/pesticide industries are that hidden hand pushing development in the wrong direction (promising the moon). Would like to post 10 proposed steps on how to fix the food system (Raj Patel, 2009) as espoused by the peasants movements growing throughout the world and leading these conversations- but wouldn't want to drone on here.

Also wanted to add, here in Austria we eat TONS of meat like literally for breakfast lunch and dinner I think Germany/Austria have some of the highest meat consumption in Europe, also I work at a start up where we produce bug protein people absolutely do believe that we will all be eating bugs soon

Hey I’m shit at political economy as well but my guess is that inflation comes from here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superprofit Thanks for keeping me sane at work and hello from Austria

I'm pretty sure inflation in underwear markets is monitored by the Federal Booty Inspectors

The owner operator picket was in Oakland, not Los Angeles.
