Approaching A Patreon Refresh

Hi everyone,

I put a little message out in the Discord a few days ago about this, but wanted to share some more of my thoughts here for you all directly.

I've been running the Patreon for about 6 months now, and frankly, I feel that I've been under-utilising it and providing little value. So, I want that to change. I think it would be great to not only give you lot, my existing Patrons, a better deal. But, to also offer more value to those who may be thinking about coming on board the Patron train.

So, I'm thinking within the next month or so I'll be doing a full refresh of the Patreon Page changing up the tiers a little by introducing new rewards and some income goals.

Feedback from users in the Discord made me aware how little of the subscriber base actually know one exists. So, I will also be creating a dedicated announcement video on the Game Dev Guide Channel advertising the Patreon, and breaking the tiers and goals down in more detail. (I will also likely be advertising it more frequently towards the start of videos for a while as an experiment to see if that drives pledges at all).

As you know, your support means a lot to me. So I wanted to run things by all of you before jumping straight into it, I always appreciate your thoughts and wanted to make sure I wasn't ripping the rug out from underneath anyone.

So without further ado, here's the current plan for the Patreon Refresh...

Goals

$250 / Month - Patron Only Tutorials

At this amount I'll also start producing deep-dive written tutorials and videos going into more detail about each video topic. Potentially covering additional use-cases, or extra content that didn't make the cut for YouTube.

$500 / Month - Q&A Livestream *Every* Month

At this amount I'll start hosting the 1-2hr long Q&A Livestream for patrons once-a-month. This Patrons will be able to ask about existing videos, things I'm working on, or anything else they may want to know.

$1000 / Month - Hire An Editor

You may or may not know that the editing process takes almost as long as it does for me to script, produce and record an episode. So, at this amount I'll be able to hire an editor for the videos. Meaning that I'll be able to release videos more regularly regardless of my schedule.

$2500 / Month - Regular Merch/Asset Drops

This amount will allow me to work with some folk to produce interesting and useful content for tutorials, and release to you Patrons for free. We may also produce some exclusive merch if there's enough demand!

$5000 / Month - Exclusive Patron Only “Production” Courses.

I have a number of different topics in my list that I'd love to make videos on, but they're way more demanding than I currently have time for and would likely not do too well on YouTube. At this amount, I'll be able to produce long-form courses and tutorial videos, that go into more nitty gritty stuff and cover even more production focused practices. It'll even include downloadable assets and resources, free for all patrons.
