Hussar tomboy
Added 2015-02-20 18:29:57 +0000 UTCToday I realized how much Iris looks like the protagonist of an old Soviet movie, The Hussar Ballad (you can watch it here with English subtitles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqjgS0hdrEc). This is a movie about a girl that went to war (in this case, the Patriotic War of 1812) disguised as a guy. Yes, Mother Russia had its Mulan. Her name was Nadezhda Andreevna Durova. However, it was little more of her left in the movie than Disney film had or real Hua Mulan. But the movie had a cute tomboy with a snub nose and short rich curls. Not like it was the prototype for Iris, but the characters and looks have a lot in common.
