This picture is just for drawing your attention. And the post itself is mainly about answering your possible questions after playing “Iris Quest” intro.
Ask them right here, in the comments. And we will try answering both the existing and the new ones.
So. Let’s start with the most important issues.
1) Why it is so short?
It is short because it is just an intro for the game. Basically, an opening cinematic aimed at filling you in and showing you both the connections to previous game in the “series”, “Princess Trainer”, and the differences from it.
During the development, we were afraid that the intro will turn up too long. That when you will play the full version of the game, you will be asking, “crap, how long before this game actually starts?!” That’s why we drew more art, added more gameplay fragments and cut the initial text part by two thirds.
Just think of it as an introduction. And then you’ll understand why we are happy and relieved to read “it is so short” comments! Because we were afraid that we have made it too damn long!
2) Is that all you managed to do for the time we have waited for the game?
Oooh, hell, no! Unfortunately, no! And our regrets are caused by the fact that we were fools to decide making “Goblins’ Curse” (former “Dungeons”) really quick. You know, a small side quest, estimated for completion in a few weeks and supposed to be released separately to keep you entertained while we’re making the main part of the game. But something went terribly wrong! We have tinkered with it, for how long? Like, two years? We have made a ton of work for it! We have drawn mountains of art and written an ocean of text. We have turned the whole RenPy engine upside down, for fuck’s sake! And it still remained a small quest (a beautiful one, though), which is not even necessary for completing the main game… Well, it was a VERY expensive experience…
And now about the main part. We worked on it in parallel, but “Goblins” still devoured significant part of our time. And now we have a whole bunch of stuff, which is yet to be assembled into the game. How much time will it take? We’re afraid of assuming. But we have started to develop the intro from scratch at the end on November last year. So we spent on it about two months in total. Which is about 20 mins of gameplay for a month of development. Now figure it out yourselves. Obviously, we will do our best to optimize the time and work expenses. But our “staff” consists of only three persons, plus our friends who volunteered to help. And it is the best of our capacities. Please, remember that.
3) It doesn’t start on Mac!
A word of advice from Wolfcub:
“I was able to start it on Mac by going to IQ.app/Contents/MacOS and launching IQ executable directly from there.”
We are working on this issue right now. And full version will be free of this crap.
The rest of discovered bugs are related to RenPy problems with some of the integrated graphic cards. And in this case, well, you know…
That’s it for now. Post your questions in the comments.
