Regarding Twitter Comics and Charging

Hi there!

For the last few months or so, I've been steadily posting small comics for free on Twitter -- at the start they were panels from the old comics you've already seen, but little by little they became their own thing. Nowadays, they range between two to six panels, as well as some collaborations, and even some stylish experiments here and there.

It's been fun, and while I've made a point not to let it affect the pace of the longer comics -- I've started the next one already! I am incredibly excited about it -- the truth is, the amount of time and effort I've spent on them is significant.

On top of that, my economical situation has worsened, and anything helps at this point. I also have some expenses I would like to afford that aren't crucial (a computer! a trip, maybe!), but I've been saving for the better part of a year and all my savings are just gone now. This forces me to face the fact I should probably consider charging for the Twitter comics?

I am going to be honest: this was never part of the plan. I wasn't expecting so many people to like my comics enough to support me, and I don't want to take that for granted either? So this is not an announcement as much as it is a question, because I want to know if you're okay with it.

Here's the facts as I see them, written in a handy list:

· The idea would be to make a massive post on Fimfiction compiling every twitter comic I've made, with some extras, as well as the usual Patreon shoutouts, character and cards included. I've already made one of these, and the result was surprisingly lengthy. This next one would be similar to that, so you sort of get what I mean.

· While I haven't counted, the estimate length of the post would be more or less around fifty panels -- so between this one, and the previous free Twitter comic, we have at around 100 panels total. Similar to a full length comic! (This is kind of why I considered charging in the first place, not going to lie).

· The post would have some extras! One or two additional comics, of between 4 and 6 panels of length. They'd be exclusive to this post and would not be posted on Twitter, just cause it feels right to do that.

· As usual, you would get access to said post 24 hours in advance, here in Patreon, before it went live.

That's more or less my line of thought. I asked you all in the Discord server, and the response was overwhelmingly positive -- every one of you who replied to my question said you were okay with me charging for Twitter comics. However, I know some of you don't use the server, and I want to make sure you all get to answer.

The Twitter comics are not a substitute for the long comics, not in the slightest -- but they're great for filling in the long periods of time between them. They also let me practice my art and writing and just, y'know, get better at this whole thing.

Also! I get to make more things in those dead hours where I can work, but I can't work on the long comics. Often, I just won't have access to the file for a couple hours, but I can, say, draw on an Ipad, and it's nice to be able to produce content for you all anyway.

So, what do you think? Some other ideas have been thrown around -- like me making a point of keeping weekly comics on twitter, or even biweekly, while still working on the longer comics, and then change my patreon to monthly charges, but I'm not entirely sure about that, and would need to make sure I can keep a level of productivity I feel justifies that change. Let's keep that as a tenuous "maybe" if most of you are okay with it. Perhaps creating a new $1 tier in that case, if some of you want to support me but can't do a high amount per month?

For the time being, this is how I would like to keep the Twitter comics, more or less -- I post them for free, but once they reach a certain number that justifies it, I make an 'official' post with shoutouts and charge for it.

Would you be okay with it? Let me know in the comments! In the meantime, I'll go back to working on that next big comic. I really can't wait for you to see it.

See ya!

I'm fine with whatever

I thought we were paying for shoutouts in the first place¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You know my stance already.

Yes! I absolutely support the compendium of Twitter comics being counted as a Patreon posting.

Absolutely encourage both the Twitter compendium and making this monthly

Official posts with shoutouts seem great. You did the work, take credit for it (and I'm not on Twitter, sooooo...) :)

Dan White

I joined after you started doing the twitter comics, and I was honestly surprised you weren't charging for them already I was, and still am, prepared to support your work, because you're honestly a really funny and clever writer
