Aha, thank you, that distinction about the time lapse really helps, particularly where Spain & the gold are concerned. They made some huge threats over that remaining bit so I missed why they weren't following up on that. Makes sense!

Spain got the majority of the gold back in season 3 so the war with England is a bigger concern now than the remaining cache. The show has a great playground here in that historically England did leave the real Rogers to deal with the pirates on his own when they went back to warring with Spain and he couldn't walk away because all his money was invested in Nassau. Billy asked Featherstone to pass on the warning that Rogers had set a trap for the pirates and to not enter the harbor. Flint never got the warning so they're blaming Featherstone for not passing the info on. Eleanor's claim that she didn't know what Vane's death would lead to rings hollow to me, Max tried to warn her but she was more concerned with her personal vendetta than the bigger picture.
